So lately I’ve been feeling the pull back into some ‘domestic’ hobbies that I have neglected in the past few years. One being the gardening that I wrote about earlier and the other being my love for cooking and baking.
Looking back over the past few years, I’ve had to laugh that I haven’t spent more time in the kitchen. Our house was basically built around my kitchen. When we sat down and designed our house, my main focus was the kitchen.
* Pay no mind to the messy house in the picture. This was the only picture I had of my kitchen handy and it’s from when we first moved in. *
Our last house in MD was what people call a ‘galley’ kitchen. Basically only one person could fit in it at one time. That was ok for regular cooking stuff, but when you like to cook with friends and or teach your daughters how to enjoy cooking, it was kind of hard.
So here in FL my DH allowed me to build a beautiful kitchen. I love it. Though, I have also loved living in a more ‘relaxed’ area – enjoying daily sun and warm weather and being outside a lot more. But that is hopefully going to change. I want to be in my kitchen more. Not so much for creating ‘masterpieces of culinary design’, but just enjoying cooking and baking while life goes on around me.
One kitchen ‘trick/tip’ that I find quiet handy is keeping a straw inside all of my flour containers. This saves from finding a knife to slide across the top to make it an even cup.
The last boring detail I’ll share with you today is proof that I have been somewhat ‘organized’ and ‘domesticated’ in the past. This is my monthly cleaning schedule. On it I have my basic cleaning and also jobs that I tend to forget to do. You know the ones, the ones you don’t notice till you have visitors over then they stick out like a sore thumb.. messy microwaves, dirty baseboards, or the crumb and dirt villages growing under your couch cushions.
Also in this crazy picture is my blank monthly calendar for meals, pantry list, and grocery list.
See.. I can be domestic when I want to be.. LOL
