I wasn’t around in 1930’s when the first Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook was first published, but I did grow up with ‘Red Plaid’ cookbook.
My grandmother not only cooked from it, but I remember her teaching me how to read and follow recipes from it.
With splatter marks, sticky pages, and missing dividers, my BHG Cookbook is filled with TONS of great memories.
This family is MAD FOR PLAID!
So, needless to say I was THRILLED to find out that Wiley Publishers was giving me the opportunity to review the new Better Homes and Gardens 15th Edition Cookbook. When it arrived at my house, I
ripped tore gently opened the package and immediately started thumbing through all the pages.
I’m always of the thinking ‘if it ain’t broke.. don’t fix it’, so I was VERY excited to see that not only were all my favorites of the past ‘Red Plaid’ books still intact, but new recipes and special sections had been added.
Some of the New Features are:
- New chapters – Breakfast and Brunches, Sandwiches & Pizzas, and Convenience Cooking
- Special Pages – Make it Mine recipes offer variations to old favorites and 10 to Try provides a fresh spin on tried and true recipes.
- 1,000 all new recipes
- Over 1,000 full color photographs
This new BHG Cookbook is great. I’ve been having a lot of fun trying out the new recipes and planning out new variations of the old.
I’ll be posting some of my BHG Cookbook adventures later, but here’s some pics of the SMOOTHIE section my girls and I were trying out.
In honor of the launch of the latest version of the cookbook, BHG has a really fun tab on their Facebook page that includes polls, Twitter buzz, and a couple of great contests. Stop by and check it out!
*Thanks again to Wiley Publishing for sending me the complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions are 100% ALL MINE.
