Homemade air popped popcorn is one of our favorite snacks. It’s easy to make, low on calories, and a light snack to have after dinner. We eat this tasty treat at least twice a week,so coming up with some new recipes to jazz it up a little is a must.
What Is It About Chocolate and Peanut Butter?
Whoever came up with the idea of putting chocolate and peanut together was a genius. Two simple ingredients that create a delicious taste that can be very addicting.
I am a huge fan of peanut butter cups, so I wanted to find a way of putting that taste together with my favorite evening snack. I did a little research and found different recipes for caramel popcorn. This recipe is actually one that I found in one of my old cookbooks of my grandmothers. I tweaked it just a little bit and it turned out great.
After a few tries and some sticky fingers, this tasty recipe came together.
Putting the Caramel Sauce Together
This part of the recipe is dairy free. With just a few ingredients and a short period of time on stove, you’ll have a delicious peanut butter caramel sauce.
Three ingredients! That’s all it takes for this recipe. Peanut butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. That’s all you will need.
Oh wait.. if you use a different nut butter or one that doesn’t have salt (like I did) you will want to add some salt to the mixture to bring the flavors together.
Once you have the mixture together, you will want to work with it pretty quickly. I learned it will thicken up somewhat fast and you will want to be able to pour it over the popcorn with ease.
I found that popping the popcorn, then making caramel sauce is the best way to keep the caramel sauce pour-able and the popcorn fresh.
Once you have the popcorn and the sauce made, spread the popcorn out on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. This will keep the sauce from getting all over the place.
Drizzle the sauce over the popcorn and then with a spatula, mix the popcorn, getting as much popcorn covered with caramel sauce.
Once all the popcorn is covered, sprinkle in your favorite chocolate pieces like the Unreal Chocolate.

For Those Non Popcorn Nights
When we aren’t having popcorn, I also like to get my peanut butter fix by adding an Unreal Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup to some yogurt.
Sound a little crazy? It may.. but it tastes amazing!
