The night that we closed on the house, my husband and I took a drive over to look around and just look in awe at what was now our home.
On our way out, we were admiring the old door knob on the front door.
B has an old fashioned key that he’s had on his key ring since he was little and he thought it would be fun to see if it opened the door.. it didn’t..
But, while he was playing with that, I thought it would be fun to play with these little buttons that I found on the inside of the door.
They were old.. what harm could they do??
Well, fast forward to the next day ..
I step up to the door, stick our key in, try to turn the knob and it won’t open!
The main lock is unlocked.. but the door won’t budge.
After giving up, I find a window to crawl through and I quickly figured out that these ‘little buttons’ did work and obviously locked the door.
THANKFULLY, we have a wonderful shop downtown that specializes in the salvage of antique building materials and old house parts.
After crawling back out the window, I stopped by Florida Victorian Architectural Antiques and Mark was able to show me how to take apart the door handle and disable this old fashioned lock. What a great place & a very kind man.
As I was leaving, he suggested that I NOT play with those little buttons any more. LOL.
Later that evening, B was able to undo everything and we can NOW get into our new home with ease.
