Over the past 5 or so years my ‘health’ awareness has really grown and changed.
It’s not a how much will I workout this week or how many calories am I eating type awareness, but more of a where is my food coming from, how was it grown or raised, and how is what I’m eating going to affect my and my families, overall health type awareness.
As I look back, I can say that there have been many different things and people that have taught me (most without even knowing) that we really can’t just blindly go to the grocery store and just buy whatever… it’s just not healthy.
Too many chemicals in our food
Too many chemicals sprayed on our food
So many artificial ingredients (that aren’t really needed)
and so much more.
So, today I wanted to share with you just a few of the people and or documentaries that started me on this journey of healthy eating.. organic produce and products, plant based eating, and so on.
Wow! This was the first documentary that I had ever watched on our countries food industry.
I had NO IDEA, as I think a lot of Americans don’t, that there are only a few corporations that control HUGE amounts of our countries food industries.
From learning about large animal production to industrial growing and genetically modifying our grain, this film sheds light on some really important issues that, I feel, everyone should know about.
This lady rocks! And she’s a Mom just like me, who loves her kids.
I watched her TED video and was so inspired to become more aware of what I was allowing into my home when it comes to food.
How is it made? What was sprayed on it? Was it genetically modified?
All these questions, and so many more, are what we should be asking ourselves.
Why does our country allow so much more crap (sorry, but that’s what it is) in our food that other countries REFUSE to let into their homeland?
Ugh. I could go on and on, but Robyn does a much better job at explaining and campaigning for better food practices.
I know .. I know.. this is probably a given. He’s pretty popular, I know, but I do really like him.
A medical doctor that really seems to have a heart to look beyond the prescriptions to heal someone. He believes in a healthy lifestyle and using good food to heal the body.
I don’t agree or take everything he says as truth, but I do love that he’s being able to reach more and more people with news, information, and helpful hints about doing things naturally first.
There are quite a few more I could share with you, but I’ll share this last one and maybe do another post later.
I remember actually getting my husband, who really isn’t a big documentary person, to sit and watch this movie. It impacted both of us tremendously.
It’s another great film packed with tons of information about how what we eat can either hurt or help our health.
It also goes beyond just this film, they have an amazing web site and Facebook page that continually educates and informs their followers about the importance of eating healthy and naturally.
There is so much information out there now, that all of this can get not only confusing, but also very overwhelming. I have to center myself sometimes when I’m fretting over not being able to find organic veggies or learning about how HUGE corporations (don’t even get me started on Monsanto) have such an active role in our government labeling and lobbying. It’s scary.
As a Christian though, I trust.
I trust that no matter what, I have a God that loves me like no other.
I am aware though, that even if I eat everything organic and take exceptional care of myself, I, unfortunately, live in a sinful world where there is sickness and death. I trust Him with my life and even if I were to get sick, I don’t have to fear death.
I try though to honor Him with my life. In honoring all that He has done for me, I choose to take care of the body that He has given me. To be a good steward of all that we have, and to take care of this earth that He has created.
Changing my outlook on what we eat has made a huge difference in the health of my family and myself. We feel so much better and can truly see a difference it makes in ones life.
How about you?
I would love to hear about what got you on the path of healthy living. Leave me a comment and let me know.
Wishing you a happy and healthy weekend!
