I joined up with this Challenge, not only to learn more effective ways to save water, energy, and reducing waste, but to challenge myself in doing more than what we are already doing.
As a family we recycle all your basic things. Our paper products go into brown paper bags. Our recyclable plastics and glassware go into their bins, and any food matter that can be composted.. is.
But in other areas like water conservation and energy savings, I think we can do better.
I was sent a sample of Cascades Action Pac Dishwashing to try out.
Using the Cascade Action Pac’s allows you to skip the ‘pre-washing’ step and can help you save up to 2,600 gallons of water a year!
After using these pac’s in our dishwasher, I was truly impressed with how clean my dishes looked.
This is no joke.. this is a REAL pic of my little glass dishes. The one on the right was washed with the regular store liquid detergent I had. And the one on the left with the Cascade Pac.
I was impressed!
One of P&G’s motto’s for this Challenge is:
It starts with one small step to reduce your impact on the planet
I look at it this way..
It’s my prayer that I will live to see my grandchildren, and Lord willing, maybe even my great grandchildren, play at the beach or at our local parks. I want them to have clean air to breathe, water to drink, and not to live in a place that is over run with trash.
I really don’t think that’s too much to ask, nor is it something I’ll rely on ‘other’ people to take care of.
So what ‘new’ things are we doing as part of this challenge??
Well, beyond using the Cascade pacs..
we are stocking up on rechargeable batteries for all our electronics – this is great because when the Wii remotes get low, we have new batteries all charged and ready to go
We recently started refilling 1 gallon water jugs at the store instead of buying new ones
and I’m even washing more of our clothes in cold water instead of hot – and they actually turn out ok!
It may seem simple at first, but I know in the long run it will make a big difference!
