Never before have I ever sat down to flip through a cookbook and ended up on the couch reading it like a love story..
That is, until I received the Gluten-Free Girl and The Chef.
Not only is this a beautiful collection of tongue tantalizing gluten-free recipes, but it’s also an adorable love story.
Shauna James Ahern was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2005. Yet, unlike some people who may mourn the loss of so many foods they can no longer eat, Shauna set out to find in the most amazing foods she could find. She chronicled her new ‘gluten-free’ journey on her blog GlutenFreeGirl.com
After meeting her husband Daniel, who is a talented chef, the two started creating spectacular gluten-free dishes and living out a wonderful love story.
I really enjoyed reading about Shauna and David’s courtship, their married life, and the stories they’ve infused throughout the book.
But, being somewhat of a newbie to the Gluten-free world of baking and cooking, I was THRILLED to sit and read all the cooking techniques and helpful hints that are needed when baking/cooking gluten-free.
Shauna and David’s love for cooking flows from the pages as they encourage the reader/cook to try recipes over and over. With variations and serving suggestions, any new gluten-free cook would gain huge amounts of confidence in the kitchen after reading through this cookbook.
Some of the recipes did seem a little over my head at this point and or had ingredients that were just to fancy for my family, but all in all, this cookbook is one I can see being used quiet often.
The other day, I attempted their Beef Bourguignon.
I was a little apprehensive to try this out, but after reading through all the detailed directions and encouraging words, I pulled out my pots and started out.
I didn’t have ALL the ingredients, but followed along as best as I could. Adapting where need be.
It was YUMMYLICIOUS!
I’m really looking forward to trying out more of their recipes in the upcoming weeks. We may gain a few extra pounds, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.
As you can see, I’ve already ‘stickied’ all my favorite pages!
