Healthy Lifestyle and Faith Go Hand in Hand
One of my main goals for writing about healthy living isn’t to just reiterate things that are being said by other Health and Wellness bloggers, but to also share and encourage you how faith plays an important role in wellness too.
As a Christian, I find it strange that health and wellness bible studies and messages are few and far between. As a believer, I know that I am ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’, Psalm 139:14. God has created me for purpose and to carry that out, I should be healthy and spiritually strong. Yet, for some reason we don’t hear a lot about that in our churches.
So, as a blogger, I am hopping to share with you and encourage you that being healthy and well is something that God calls us to be.
To help me do that, I have been seeking out literature that focuses on health and wellness from a Christian point of view. Again, there’s not a lot of there.
Recently though, I came across a book on Book Lovers that I could download and review, God’s “Weigh” To Your Ideal Body Weight. I was excited to see the synopsis of the book was right along with my thinking, so I quickly signed up and began reading.
Am I Missing Something?
As I was downloading God’s Weigh, I was looking at the recent reviews on the Book Lovers site and on Amazon. There seemed to be so many positive reviews, so my excitement was growing.
Than I began reading the book and started thinking to myself, am I missing something? Why was everyone praising this book when I felt that although very well meaning, his references to scripture and what the directives that those meant for us when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle were way off base.
Please don’t get me wrong. Mr. Lowery does make some very well written points. The church has been very absent when it comes to addressing the health issues that plague not only our country, but our church members, I do agree with him on the many points he made about that, but I found myself not liking the direction he took when it came to applying scripture to back up his points.
Yet when it came to encouraging the reader with direct scripture as to why we should take care of ourselves, I felt like he dropped the ball. At some times during my reading, I felt like I was being more guilt-ed into being healthy because if I didn’t care about my health, well, I was being disobedient to God.
I could go on and list all the points I disagreed with Mr. Lowery on, but that really isn’t my point in reviewing this book. What God lays on one mans heart may be totally different than what He speaks to another, so I will not stand in judgment of that.
I do want to encourage though, any person that is seeking for God’s direction on their health and wellness journey, to always seek scripture first. Pray and ask God to lead you. Read books and study, yes, but always take it back to the Lord for discernment and direction.
God designed you. He knitted you together.. of course He wants you to be healthy. But above all, He wants you to know He loves you and desires a life changing relationship with you.
Spend your time and energy in training yourself for spiritual fitness. Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is much more important for it promises a reward in both this life and the next. This is true and everyone should accept it.” 1 Timothy 4:7-9 (NLT)

The Bible is the greatest health and weight loss book ever written. God has a call to every believer to walk holy in the area of diet (dietary holiness). What you eat matters to God.
