Healthy Meal Planning Made Easy with Real Plans
One of the first questions I get when I tell people that I eat a mostly plant based organic diet is, “How can you afford to eat like that?”
Yes, organic produce and the healthier grocery items are more expensive than the non organic items a lot of the times, but after a lot of trial and error and a lot of research, I have found ways to fit eating healthy into our budget and I’d love to share one of my new favorites with you.
Budgeting & Planning
I was extremely blessed to have been able to be a stay at home, homeschooling mom for over 20 years. I often picked up part time evening jobs or did daycare for a little while to help out, but the biggest reason we could afford for me to stay at home was by staying on a strict budget.
It wasn’t always easy, ESPECIALLY when it came to grocery shopping.
At first, when my girls were little, I did purchase the cheaper food items and clipped coupons. It worked for a little while, but we started having different health issues pop up, so I started taking a look at our diet. We needed to eat better, but how do we do that without going broke?
I was in my early early 20’s when I had my girls, so I really had no homemaking skills when it came to meal planning. I really didn’t even know what that was until a dear friend at church started showing me. I quickly learned that planning meals out and only buying what you needed for those meals and planned snacks could save us quite a bit of money… AND.. I could afford the healthier food too.
Meal planning was fun at first, but I’m gonna be real honest with you.. after about the first month or so.. when I was searching and searching for new recipes to try or trying to figure out what meal to make on what night… it got old quick.
Let Someone Else Do the Work
I burned out trying to plan menus all the time and it cost me when it came to buying the groceries.
Even to this day, when I go to the store without a plan, I spend more money and still don’t have complete dinner recipes to make. So I decided to try some of the programs you pay for.
I’ve tried a few different meal planning programs over the years. Each one of them benefiting us in one way or the other, but I think I have finally found the one program that I works best for our family. It allows us to customize our menus around any food allergies and or diet lifestyles and I LOVE that.
Real Plans focuses on using real foods. Fruits, veggies, and healthy meats, poultry, and or fish are included in their recipe choices. Processed and packaged foods are rarely seen on a recipe. The designers and cooks that have put this program together understand that people are looking for good quality, great tasting recipes to share with their loved ones.. and that’s what you’ll find with Real Plans.
How Does it Work?
When you sign up for a Real Plans subscription you’ll quickly learn that it’s really easy to use. They have some really great videos that will walk you through each step and before you know it, you’ll be receiving you weekly menu in your email box.
Customizing your menu plan is simple. You can change the days of the week in which you want the plan to start, you can pick the type of diet style you’re looking for, choose the amount of people you’re cooking for, and so much more.
I loved the fact that if I didn’t like one, two, or even a few of the items on my menu for the week, I could easily go into my account and switch things around.
This is extremely helpful when I find a special deal on veggies or meats at our local farmers market. I can just adjust my menu for the week and I’m all set.
Real Plans has been put together in such a way that it’s extremely user friendly. The Mobile app is great help when you’re at the grocery store. You can just pull up your app and have your grocery list right there, all ready to go.
Do They Taste Good?
Over the past few weeks, I have really been putting Real Plans to the taste test. I have found some really delicious recipes like the Swiss Chard Quiche that challenge me to buy things like Swiss Chard.. I’ve never cooked Swiss Chard.. and it tasted AMAZING!
