Why is it, that at the beginning of every new year, we all seem to make these lofty goals that are almost always hard to reach? We shoot for perfection and feel defeated when we don’t reach it.
Well, this year I want to encourage you to look at things a little differently. I’ve put together 3 simple and easy ways to make progress your perfection for the new year.
Progress Means Movement
The one issue I have always had with goals is there seems to be an ending point. Once you reach the goal, you’re done. Than what?
When you change your outlook on perfection and make it about progress, then you embrace the possibilities of the journey to a better, healthier you as something that is always moving, changing, taking you to new places.
Progress is the forward or onward movement towards a destination, so here are three things you can implement into your new year lifestyle that will help you make progress your perfection in the new year.
1. Write Your Story of Progress
I’ve learned over the years that writing things down helps me to not only remember things but to also see progress. Whether it’s in a subject I’m studying or just my own life journey, journaling allows me to record what’s happening in the present so that I can look back at a later date and see where I’ve been and where I’m headed.
Writing things out also feeds another passion of mine, pretty journals. The more thoughts I write down, the more paper I use, which in turns gives me a reason to buy a new pretty journal.
Moving through a beautifully bound journal is progress for sure.
2. Allow Movement To Be Fun, Not Chore
Yes, we all know that exercising is important, but sometimes the thought of a day to day exercise routine can just shut down our momentum. I know that was happening to me for YEARS.
I always looked at exercise as a chore. Something that HAD to be done. It wasn’t until I changed my mindset and chose to make movement fun, that I saw progress in how often I moved. Now I move every day because I’m dancing, I’m lifting weights, I’m hiking, and I’m having a blast.
So, when you start to ‘plan’ out your exercise program, don’t.
Sit down and think about what kind of adventures you can have that involve movement. Whether it’s going on a beautiful hike in the woods or a walk around your neighborhood looking for things you have never noticed before, just move.
Remember, progress is a movement… so move.
3. Make New Things To Eat
OK, now you probably know this part is my favorite. There is nothing more I like to do than to encourage people to have fun in the kitchen. Yes, if you don’t know what you’re doing when it comes to cooking, it can be a little scary, but the only way to make progress or to move forward is to try.
I try to go into every year looking for new foods to try. This way my eating never gets boring. If it fails, who cares, at least I tried.
And the new things to try don’t have to be expensive or hard to find. I mean, I had NO idea over 8 years ago there was such a thing as Silk Almond milk. And now I love it!
Silk Almond Milk is a delicious addition to just about any recipe and is a great source of plant-based protein.
My favorite thing to do with my Silk Almond Milk is to get creative with smoothie recipes. Smoothies are perfect just about any time of day. I especially like them after a good workout.
Gather The Good Stuff and Blend
Making smoothies is not only a great way to add lots of nutrients to your diet, but it’s also super easy to do. Silk Almond Milk is easily found at your local Walmart’s. They have all different kinds of flavors like Silk Vanilla Almond Milk, Silk Original Almond Milk, and my favorite, Silk Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk.
All of these and many others would work perfectly in a great smoothie. And I have just the one for you to try.
Happy Morning Orange Smoothie
This smoothie recipe makes a tasty treat in the morning or is a nice, refreshing way to kick-start your afternoon. Its anti-inflammatory properties will help keep you moving throughout the day and its citrusy flavor will have you feeling like it’s summer even if it’s winter.
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1 cup Silk Almond Milk (flavor of your choice)
- 1/2 of a large orange, peeled and quartered
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla
- Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
- Serve cold or store in an air-tight container for up to one day.
Progress is Your Perfection
Making a conscious effort to be continually moving is always a good thing. Whether it’s physically through exercise, spiritually through reading, or even financially by saving more and spending less, moving toward those destinations is progress.
It’s the progress that is your perfection.
