Over the past couple weeks, I’ve had the chance to talk to a few local business owners about how they are doing financially.
As just about with any business in the Central Florida area, they are struggling.
But what surprised me most was when I would ask them if they were utilizing Social Media outlets like Facebook and Twitter to get the word out about sales and specials going on, they looked at me like I two heads.
Now I know I’m not the ‘coolest’ Mom on the block or that up on all the new ‘techy’ stuff that’s out there, but I do know that Social Media is a GREAT way to get the word out.
When a local family ice cream parlor that I’ve ‘Liked’ on Facebook, posts that they have homemade Key Lime Pie ice cream as one of their special flavors, I’m there!
When a local restaurant reminds me that it’s Ladies Night the their establishment, I more likely to message some of more girl friends and hit the town for the night.
Actually, there have been quiet a few times that I’ve gone out and spent money at a local business because of something they posted on Facebook or Twitter, so it REALLY surprises me that more and more business’ are NOT doing this.
It’s FREE advertisement and (not that this is a good thing) it is kind of like the impulse buying techniques grocery stores use.. candy in the check out aisle and such.
What do you think?
Are you seeing more and more or your local business owners using social media?
