If switching to a plant based, gluten-free lifestyle seems a little overwhelming to you, than I highly suggest getting your hands on Heather Crosby’s cookbook YumUniverse.
I’ve been following Heather for a few months now via her blog and Instagram, so I was thrilled to get the opportunity to review her first cookbook. I knew from reading her blogs and trying some of the recipes she posted, this cookbook was going to be something I definitely wanted to add to my collection.
Let me say this first off, YumUniverse is much more than just a book full of recipes. It’s a education.
Heather uses the first half the book to educate you on the Why’s and the How’s of living a gluten-free, plant-powerful, whole food lifestyle. She helps quiet the noise of all the different information that is out there these days about gluten and plant based eating, and gives you simple, down to earth information that you can easily understand and use to make the change to a healthier lifestyle.
And now that you have the Why’s and How’s nailed down, the second half of the book is packed with over 150 recipes developed by Heather. All with no meat, dairy, gluten, or soy.
Picking one recipe to make for this review wasn’t the easiest of tasks. So many delicious choices.
Yet, the other night it was rainy and a bit chilly (at least for Florida) here, so I decided I would try her Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Bisque.
Oh my! This bisque is so delicious.
My husband came in right as I was blending it together and was a little leery about trying it, but after taking a small spoon and sampling the bisque, he quickly retrieved a soup mug and proceeded to fill it up… twice.
I do have to say that I have a sensitive stomach and can’t tolerate too much spicy food, so I was only able to eat a little of this soup, so just be aware.. the red pepper will give you a good kick in the taste buds if that’s what you like.
A gluten-free, plan based lifestyle is doable. With books like YumUniverse, it’s totally doable.
